CRUNCH!

An oudoor dance theatre Show for Families

Come and join Sonny, a wise woodsman of the forest. He’s been a little out of kilter recently and needs your help. His friends haven’t been spotted for some time. Can you come exploring with us to find them?

CRUNCH! is a unique and magical adventure in nature for families. An hour-long interactive trail invites children (recommended age 0-12 years) to contribute to the show at different stages to help find a way to bring all of Sonny’s friends back together again.

Families can expect joyous dance performance, soundscapes, a jolly narrator, live music and textural interactions with the environment they are in – an immersive, accessible & joyful way to dance & performance outdoors!

“Loved the narrator holding the story and space, and the amazing dancers!”

“BEAUTIFUL!! Wish this was a regular feature – you brought the magic back into the arb! Thank you. It was enchanting. ”

“We loved the interactive dancing afterwards”

“Loved taking in the beautiful elements of movement music and description and seeing my god daughters reactions.”

“You could just see how captivated the children were.”

“The audio description made the performance come to life more for my daughter but as a dyslexic adult it did the same for me too.”

I had a really fun time listening to the sounds. My favourite part was hearing the snoring noises.”

testimonials

“The work you are doing is amazing…It makes a huge difference. The thing about working with VI children, families and artists is that our numbers are not big but the impact for individuals really is and that is awesome! Quality and fun is the magic formula!”

Holly Thomas, Lead Collaborator with The Velcro Collective

“The work is playful, interactive and full of heart, and their creative approach to access and inclusion is exciting.  It’s great to see a company creating such engaging experiences for young audiences and their families, and I’m really excited to encounter Crunch! in the forest soon!”

Tim Casson, 2022 Artistic Mentor

“I felt the project you are doing is fantastic, these types of performances are needed for children and families.”

how we made the show

Since 2022, we have delivered workshop event days with visually impaired children and families at Westonbirt Arboretum.

The creative contributions from the families have informed the artistic processes in making CRUNCH!

We’ve also been delivering workshops with Cirencester Opportunity Group, and with Interdepen-Dance of Cirencester Dance Club. All workshops have contributed to how we make an interactive and textural performance in nature.

In 2023, we received funding from Forestry England and Create Gloucestershire to develop CRUNCH! into a interactive nature trail. Families took part in the trail over two different events at Westonbirt Arboretum.
